If you’re looking to add some contemporary suburban bliss to your home, well look no further. Nico van der Meulen Architects will give your property the perfect upgrade. Just look toward their most recent project the Constantia Kloof House for an idea of what they can achieve!
Nico van der Meulen Architects has a well-established reputation amongst international design circles. With that said, it’s clear that their name precedes them. The homeowners of the Constantia Kloof House in Joburg’s suburb of the same name approached the design team for a modern upgrade. And a modern upgrade they received! So magnificent is the completed house, that it was featured in the popular design publication SA Homes.
One of the most splendid features of this house is the steel porte-cochere that arches not upwards and over, but out of the building. It seemingly beckons the visitor in like the swoosh of an arm. Nico van der Meulen suspended the porte-cochere from a semi-circular beam that is supported by a bisecting wall, a huge column and a transfer beam over the pool.
Nico van der Meulen Architects removed many of the internal walls on the ground floor to open up the space making it more fluid and natural. Continuing the welcoming theme, the front door also boasts a small waterfall that adds a soothing sound of wateras one enters. A koi pond exists to the north side of the lounge with glass stepping stones traversing and leading it to a pivoted glass front door.
