If you haven’t been to it already, this week end is your last chance to catch the “Thrown Together” art exhibition by artist Simon Stone currently exhibiting at the SMAC Gallery in Cape Town.
Simon Stone’s “Thrown Together” exhibition is a collection of the artists most recent paintings. As the name of the exhibition suggests, the concepts and imagery that Simon Stone has used are pulled and thrown together, drawn from memories, thoughts and dreams.
This SMAC Gallery latest exhibition demonstrates Stones personal exploration into the realm of that which is intangible and elusive in the mind, those fleeting moments, memories and recollections. These he expresses through the use of seemingly unrelated objects, people and places which are then thrown together on the canvas, along with recurring motifs, receding landscapes, cityscapes, female figures and human forms, all of which have varied meaning to the artist himself.
These images Stone then fragments and splits, separating and juxtaposing each of the objects in the paintings from within his own personal narrative, forming single conversations, singular moments in time within the artwork.
The SMAC Gallery will continue to host this wonderful and thoughtful exhibition until the 31st of January. The exhibition itself can be found in the Cape Town branch of SMAC along Buitengracht Steet.
