Funky Garden Path Designs

So you are keen to put a garden path into your garden. We all have our own reasons, for some it’s because you don’t want to get your feet wet or dirty on damp days, for others it’s because you want the grass not to have to suffer under the constant tread of visiting feet, for yet others it’s about providing a straight walk from one place in the garden to another, or perhaps you just want a path because well, it looks pretty. Any reason is good to put a garden path in! But what happens if you don’t want an ordinary old moulded concrete paving stone type pathway? What if you are looking for something a little different, quirky or funky for your garden design and décor, what are your options then?

Here are some fabulous funky garden path design ideas for if you are looking for something just a little more interesting than a regular dirt path or concrete slab to put in your garden!

A fantastic funky garden path design idea and one that lets you do a little bit toward the recycling drive is to use salvaged planks for your garden path! In this image the landscaper has used reconstituted railway sleepers to create a very cool curved pathway through the garden from one side to the little private deck area in the far corner. Railway sleepers are a particularly good idea as they are treated with creosote more often than not making them hardy and durable. You can place then with large gaps in between, like in this image, or you can lay them side by side. Naturally if you want a soft, curving line as opposed to a straight one, it makes more sense to go with the larger gaps. The gaps can be left with lawn in the gaps or you can fill them up with pebbles, sand, wood chips, ground cover, or any other textured floor covering.0068905 gardens floor coverings design and decor decor home design directory south africa

Sticking with wood, another fabulous funky garden path design idea is to use slices of wood like in the image below. This is a great design idea for adding visual interest! This is created by using wooden tiles that have been sliced horizontally through the trunk of the tree to display the growth rings. With the bark left on, these create really fabulous looking circular wooden tiles that can be laid along side each other in a fairly random way, or arranged within a border to create the look you would like. Again you can fill in the gaps with lawn, pebbles, wood chips or ground cover depending on what you would like!diy garden path of wood slabs 1 500x375 gardens floor coverings design and decor decor home design directory south africa

This concept is great because it allows you to be as creative as you would like to be!6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a723f165970b 500wi gardens floor coverings design and decor decor home design directory south africa

If you are looking for something colourful and funky, a fantastic funky garden path design idea is to go for a mosaic garden path. This can be done in a number of ways! If you have the budget, hire in a mosaic professional to either design and lay the mosaic path directly into your garden or to create an artwork in individual tiles which you can then lay yourself! Of course you can also by ready made mosaic tiles for your garden path or, if you have the creativity and patience, you could also do your own mosaic! But I think you might need a lot of patience!
