Summer is almost here! And of course this means beautiful South African weather! The next couple months are going to be full of sunshine and summer heat, which means lots of time out doors tanning and braaing and swimming for those who are lucky enough to have pools.
Swimming pools are an asset to any home and will instantly improve the value of any property, but beyond that pools are a fantastic thing to have in this climate of ours where temperatures and humidity can get to be very hot and uncomfortable! There is nothing quite like a nice cool dip at the end of a hot day, or being able to splash about in the pool after a hot day at school
And one need not have a big pool either. Yes, a big swimming pool can be a great feature and entertainment asset in a home, but smaller pools, or plunge pools can be equally as attractive and useful! And of course, plunge pools don’t need nearly as much space! A neat little plunge pool can be sunk into any space and can be made deep enough that it can still provide a fabulous cool soak at the end of a hot summer day!
What is even better about plunge pools is the extensive variety of shapes and styles of plunge pool you can consider! There is literally a type, shape and style to suit the design and décor of any home! If you are considering installing a plunge pool on your property, here are some lovely examples of the different types of plunge pool to give you ideas and inspiration.
This is the perfect example of typical plunge pool design although the setting of this particular plunge pool is quite spectacular. Plunge pools are small and most often deep, with a seat or step of some sort and they are usually nestled neatly to suit the overall design of the rest of the area. Here the plunge pool has been designed to sit off the main patio and overlook the this very beautiful sea view, but really you can place a plunge pool anywhere and it will look good!
This is a very hot plunge pool design idea for a property with a narrow space in which to place the pool. Here the designer has placed the plunge pool from the edge of the house to the edge of the balcony so the plunge pool is literally right outside the patio door. The designer has very cleverly built stepping stones across one side of the plunge pool so people can get comfortably from one side to the other. These stepping stones are not only practical, but add a great aesthetic feature too.
A very hot plunge pool design idea is to extend a plunge pool from or into a your decking. King all the way up to the edge of a plunge pool, and if you have the facilities, ending the pool in an infinity edge like the one shown in this image is extremely attractive. One word of advice though: if you have children, this is not the design for you! Add rails because children love to climb and the last thing you want or need is your brazen young one climbing off the edge of a pool designed in this way!
Another very hot plunge pool design idea is to incorporate a water feature into the design. In this image there is a stand alone water feature trickling water into the plunge pool, but what is also very attractive is to build the plunge pool against a wall and then install fountains to pour from the wall into the pool. This not only looks stunning but also means in the pool you get a sort of shower or waterfall effect!
