The spring 2011 colour trends are all about fun, bright, fruit salady frivolity. We’re talking bold eye-popping colours that remind us of the glorious spring and summer to come. This season sees a little retro step backward toward the vivid, block colours of the 80′s, but with a more modern and sophisticated twist, and I have to say, I’m loving it!
Canary Yellow is probably the most vivid of all the colours spring 2011 has to offer. Yes we have seen yellow make it’s return since last season, and for those of you who were thinking it might just be a one season wonder: wrong! Yellow is absolutely a must have again this season with gorgeous canary yellow and other colour combinations abounding!
Here are some ideas on the hot design and décor looks you can achieve with the canary yellow colour trend.
This season, colour blocking as a décor trend is huge. Why not colour block with a bit of bright canary yellow. Using a combination of strong and fun colours can really bring the breath of spring 2011 into a room. Use combinations like canary yellow and electric blue, or canary yellow and turquoise. Canary yellow and Lime green with a hint of either shade of blue is also very funky!
Sticking with the colour blocking concept, a very cool décor idea for using canary yellow in your design and décor is to paint small accent areas with the colour as contrast against your actual wall. In this image, the decorator has painted the back wall of a book shelf canary yellow, which contrasts beautifully against the turquoise blue wall and really makes the objects displayed on the bookshelf pop!
You can use canary yellow with a bit more subtlety to create an eye- catching yet soft effect for your design and décor. Strategically placed canary yellow objects like this mirror frame, chair and yellow pieces within the cabinet draw the yellow through the room with out drawing too much attention, but still freshen and warm the space considerably!
If you are looking for something a little different to do with your canary yellow, how about painting your doors, door frames, window frames, window shutters, skirting boards, or dado rails in this vivid colour. Painting the trims of a room in your house will really bring this décor trend to life in your home, and make the area feel light and fun!
