It might sound like it’s only possible in the realms of Harry Potter, but one designer by the name of Ben Alun-Jones has created an invisible chair. The Affinity Chair blends materials, which from a distance don’t catch the eye but close up, is visible.
Alun-Jones describes it as, “an attempt at the impossible”. It’s completely weird and we have to admit we’re dying for one, even if just to freak out our colleagues!

The creation of the Affinity chair started out as a mere creative project, but it has turned into a project of the future.
“Born out of an attempt at the impossible, the Affinity chair explores our relationship with light and space,” explains creator Alun-Jones. “When alone, the chair merges into the background becoming almost invisible as it cloaks itself in its environment. However when approached, the chair wakes, becoming transparent, revealing hidden depths and creating an almost infinite space beneath. As the sitter comes closer to the chair, the chair’s heart rate increases reminding us that even though it wants to escape, it is firmly and almost painfully stuck in front of us.”
It’s so ‘Harry Potter’ that we’re convinced it’s going to cause a wave of similar creations in the near future. Although an incredible display of ingenuity, if you’re prone to stubbing your toe, then steer clear.
